I buy used whenever possible. Sometimes I can't find what I need on the used market and don't have time to wait for it to come up, so I have no choice but to buy new.

Some gear is built like a truck and has no user foibles regarding foolish use of the equipment...
Put at the same time, take a fine head like the SVT-4PRO and bolt it into a tightly jammed up rack with no cooling and you will eventually burn up the unit.
And I mean really burn it up, where it will cost a small fortune to fix the thing if it is out of warranty. They cost a lot of money to fix so users try and get their buddies to repair them, or Joe the Amp Hack and tackle store down the block to work on them.
They usually screw them up even more.
The 4PRO generally makes for a very poor used amp purchase unless you know exactly where the amp has been and how it was used.
Does this make the 4PRO a bad amp? I don't think so, it just has its little issues that need to be watched.
I generally wouldn't recommend a used 4PRO but a new one... Yes definately.

The last 2 basses that I bought were both new. One was my Valenti J5 that I had Nino build to my specs, and the other was a peavey Cirrus 6'er that kind of fell from Heaven onto my lap for the ungodly amount of $800 brand new (you can't beat that price used.)
most of my gear was purchased used. somethings, I might not want to get used, though, depending on what it is. and price is a consideration.
I've found plenty of things here in the classifieds that I'm happy with.
