Buying Amps in the UK

Hey Talkbass .

Do any English users know anywhere that has a large selection of amp heads and cabs that are for sale but have a store where you can go in and try some?. The closest thing to this i know of is Dawsons but they only seem to stock Marshall, Hartke, Ashdown and Orange. Even then they only seem to stock gear you arent looking for. Anybody know any place else?

To be honest, I haven't found anywhere particularly good to go and try out loads of stuff under the same roof. I have heard good things about GAK (guitar, amp and keyboard) but I've only been to Brighton on tour and we had no time to go shopping. Have a look on their website:

Also, they might not have everything in their shop, but perhaps you could ring before visiting to see if they'll get stuff out of the warehouse for you to try?

Hey man, I don't know where you are in Britain but in Warwick there's a great place with lots of stock of more 'high end' bass brands.

Gak in Brighton has a massive selection you can try.

Trying amps is always difficult, same rig will sound different in different rooms and trying to remember what 'X' sounded like in the last shop compared to 'Y' in this doesn't help.

You tube vids and second hand was the way I went in the end.
