Buying first bass amp- Need Help!

I'm looking to buy my first bass cabinet. Please respond with any items that may fit my needs, but also I would like to start a discussion. Here's what I have and what I want:

1- I'm going to start out with my friend's Trace Elliot head, possibly an older version of the AH1000-12 (http://www.trace-elliot.co.uk/product.php?flag=US&lan=UK&obs=N&live=Y&new=Y&dis=9&lvl=5&key=221)
I have yet to buy my own bass, but I'll probably end up getting a Fender Jazz (not 100% sure yet).
2- I am looking to play my bass tuned down as low as C, but I would like the cab to be versatile enough to support both standard and dropped tuning. I'll be using a pick (no slap).
3- I will be using a distortion pedal
4- I'm not expecting to play large venues, so a smaller cab should be sufficient.. I can always mic, too. If you think a larger cab would work better, I am open.
5- Looking for a tone somewhat similar to Young Widows (Nick uses a Emperor cab) , Cave In (dunno what Caleb uses) or Failure (dunno what Ken/Greg used). Look them up on Myspace if you want to hear them. I understand it is much more than a cab to affects tone, but I thought I would throw that in.

I'm open to any suggestions / recommendations! Thanks.

You'll be tuning pretty low and probably playing pretty loud despite being in small rooms so get the biggest and best cabinet you can. One of the brand name 4x10 cabinets or, to save some money, the Avatar 4x10 Neo or the 2x12". Don't buy any of the low priced beginners cabinets. They won't stand up for long. Eden, SWR, Ampeg, Peavey, GK all make good cabinets. The Avatar is supposedly good enough to hang with them despite the lower price. Take your head and bass with you when you buy the cabinet and try the combination out. Consider renting a 4x10 for a weekend to get an idea of what you'll need. That way you can take it out and crank it in more of a real world environment.

You can't expect to duplicate the tone of your bass heros just by using the same gear. And who knows what was used on a recording. The bass probably went direct to the board. Getting the best cabinet you can afford will give you more of a fighting chance.
