cabinet combinations?

Well now that I have sorted out my Firebass head issue I am thinking of reconfiguring my speaker arrangement. At present I have a peavey 2x15 cabinet and an avatar B212. I am not sure the 2x15 is doing much more than adding extra air to the mixture for volume, as in tonally I don't think I am getting the best of both cabinets in combination.

So I was wondering what might be the best addition to the 212 I am running. Since I am stable at 2 ohms I would prefer a 4 ohm cab (my b212 and 2x15 are wired for 4 ohm at present). Here is what I have thought about thus far. An 18, a 4x10, another 2x12, a 4x10 or some type of 8" speaker combo like a 4x8 or something.

Music style is diverse, my original project is a progressive metal/rock type deal. Looking to get back into the party/variety band circuit for some paying cover gig gravy. So I need to be able to handle a good mix of rock, funk, and soul. Most of my processing is handled by a gt-6b. So for the most part as I look at a cabinet I want something that is good and transparent and efficient. Something that in combo enhances stage volume if needed, yet maintains solid clarity.

My budget is kind of slim, workable but slim, so used would be great. I have considered another avatar cab. I also have considered the little 4x8 (and the 3x10) that Seismic Audio sells. Of course considering the 2x15 really won't sell for much I would be content to keep it. Just trying to figure out what I might gain from an alternate additional cabinet.

I have heard that the Avatar 410 compliments their 212 nicely. However I also hear the a 15 combined with a 12 can "negate" each other sonically. If that is the case would the 10's and 12's combo negate each other? Don't get me wrong I like the idea of another set of 12's, just trying to get all the info.

much has been written on this subject,and the smart guys seem to favor identical cabs,with the drivers in a single vertical array,if possible,for the best off axis dispersion,and to prevent comb filtering etc

I like the 4x8 idea which would give you choices if bringing a single cabinet. I always wanted to try 4 8's vertically on top of an 18.

As far as comb filtering, whatever room you play in will bounce back the sound waves causing comb filtering no matter what cabs you choose. I doubt your live venues are set up like a recording studio with bass traps and sound absorption material on the walls if they are anything like the dives I have played in. I have thought about bringing sound absorption "clouds" to gigs, but people already think I'm a little off.

Part of me thinks if I do try the 4x8 option I would buy the cheap Seismic Audio one (to try) if I like the combo, then down the line maybe build another yx8 configuration to combine with the 2x12. I think part of this might become dictated by what I can scrounge from the local used market.

Looked at them as well. Gotta say something though. Last night playing through my existing setup, the 2x12 and 2x15. I was really happy (now that I have sorted out why the head was shorting) with my results.

Of course it lead to another question, to be posted. I think I am just going to sit tight with what I got unless some amazing deal falls out of the sky.
