Cabinet dampening material?

No disrespect to Parts Express, but they are hardly authoritative regarding the English language.

Although there are plenty of unfortunate people who believe "irregardless" is a word, that doesn't make it so.

Google "spring mass dampener" and see what you get.

Man, is there another list for etymology? The verb dampen can also indicate reduction in the amplitude of something, for example as in "dampening one's enthusiasm". Ergo, the usage in reducing standing waves etc. is entirely correct. For example, from Merriam-Webster:

damp·en
verb \ˈdam-pən\
damp·eneddamp·en·ing\ˈdamp-niŋ, ˈdam-pə-\
Definition of DAMPEN
transitive verb
1
: to check or diminish the activity or vigor of : deaden <the heat dampened our spirits>

The OED agrees. Can we get back to speaker design please?

But you're not on stage right now, are you?

If so, then maybe you should be paying more attention to your playing :D

not really, my playing is fine, i always finish in the studio faster than other musicians. when you can do a one take with a multiplatinum producer you have practiced enough. my point was if i was on a grammar forum i wouldent be concerned with someones bass playing :)

Point taken.

However, my point was 1) you're not on stage RIGHT NOW, so you have time to use proper spelling and punctuation and 2) if you are posting WHILE playing ON STAGE, then you definitely are not paying enough attention to your playing :D

That last part was intended as a joke; please don't mistake it for a slight on your musical ability.

I use a 1/4" wool felt like in the image below. It comes in different thicknesses and can be made of wool, polyester, or a blend. Carpet pad is available at a good price. It is also available from automotive, aircraft, and speaker parts suppliers.

I like the density of these products and they are easy to work with. They are much better than glass wool and they don't come with potential health issues.

you can use pretty much whatever you want to line your cab.. fiberglass, polyfil matting, foam padding.. plush shag carpet.. lol..

most people use foam mattress toppers (egg crate foam) and glue/staple it inside the cab..
