Cabinet Designers - Need Driver Selection Assistance for EV B-115M

Need to have a small cab available and have both a TL606 and an EV B115. Both work fine but was thinking that the tone and overall volume could be bettered with a replacement Eminence driver and was leaning towards the B115 box since it already has a crossover and a vented mid range.

Have read here that the 3015 or 3015 LF could be a good choice but am looking to you guys for the best advice.

Approximate internal volume is 23"x25"x13" and is a vented cabinet
Has an 6" vented midrange
Spec plate says 8 ohm 100 watt (although manual says 200 watt continuous) but was hoping to use a 4 ohm, 400 watt driver
Crossover is at 600 Hz.

Will changing speaker impedance have issues with the cross over, and will the crossover survive at higher power levels?
I generaly keep it set at -6dB or -12 dB?

Thanks in advance for any time spent thinking about this one.

Changing impedance will make the crossover not work as designed. 100 watt crossover with 500 watt driver = melt city.

Put a Kappalite 3015 in the TL-606. The other box is probably not salvageable without a lot more work and design than you want to do based on the questions you're asking.

That EV cab is above 4 cu ft. Not a happy place for a 3015 I think... The Tl 606 is 3.2 cu ft. Neither of those fit's my requirements as a 'small cab'. I think more in terms of 2.5 as a compact cab ... If you are talking about using the cab as a fixed position (rehersal space, church, etc) cab AND it's a low to mid volume requirement. Then you could try a 3015 in there. It will probably do OK if you push it though - something is likely to melt...

IMO - landfill the EV and either build or commission a purpose built cab ...

Based on the size and being made out of plywood, the B-115M would probably be a good candidate for redoing with a 3015LF, a new crossover, a new midrange (16lb midrange driver, seriously?) and possibly some additional bracing (tough to say).

I'd recommend that as a possible option, as even the tuning is pretty close. The port area even looks close to sufficient for sub-500w use.

However, that's going to cost a lot more, weigh a lot more, and be a lot larger than just using the TL606 which is an easy drop in replacement.

Nay. The EV is displacement limited to 100 watts in the low end, no matter what thermal rating the coil has.

Should I assume that you also think the B115 should just be left alone?
Pity as it sounds good (to my ears) but am worried about hurting it as you can hear it complain when pushed.

The TL-606 currently has a a 20 year old 400 watt Carvin speaker that sounds OK but not great. Will the 3015 restore some of the upper mids that the EV has?
