Cabinet for my Fender Showman?

I'm looking to set up a low-powered (the amp is 80-ish watts) bass rig and I'm looking for a cab that would be a good pairing with my Blackface Showman. Ideally I'd like the the setup to be able to handle practices and gigs that are of a low-to-mid volume.

I've been considering the Ampeg Portaflex line of cabinets due to being lightweight and affordable, and not to mention attractive visual appeal. I probably won't play too many gigs, personally, so I'd like not to splurge too much on some ultra high-end cab. These Ampegs seem right up my alley.

As far as tone goes... I'm not looking for super a modern or hi-fi sound with massive bass, rather I'd prefer to get a nice deep, round, smooth bass tone, akin to the bass sounds found on old 60s rock and soul recordings. I figure that with the right cabinet, this amp could deliver that sound with relative ease.

What do you think? :)

I dont know what your budget is, but I would suggest a greenboy Dually with the Faital Pro 15PR400's. It is a pretty efficient cab, and will make good use of your showman's power. As far as fit and finish, those options would be up to you, but I have seen several of the greenboy AB's Link Removed

That's definitely a beautiful cab. I'd love a 2x15, but I'd doubt I'd be able to even gig that. Even the 1x15 is a bit out of my price range, at $700-ish price (plus shipping, :-/ ). I'd probably use two single 15 cabs for at home practice with a band, and only use one cab for live use portability. I'm looking for the $500 or so range. I play bass so infrequently that I feel silly trying to justify spending close to a grand on a bass setup (though bass is my first instrument, and the one I feel most comfortable with, I'm a guitar player most often).

Thats all understandable. If you are looking at something more available check out the Ampeg PF 115LF. Ported and no tweeter, both of which I dig. If you are DIY inclined at all, maybe take a look at the TL-606 plans. If you convert them to 1/2" and add some bracing, then tune to that 15PR400 it would be a killer cabinet as well.

That 115LF seems like a good option at $350 (free shipping, via a local store). The TL-606 is interesting too, perhaps a bit past my capabilities, though, but I'll check out the plans regardless.
