Cabinet + PA System?

Hey guys, I'm new here if you haven't noticed.. but to get to the point, I'm looking for an amp for my band practice since the one at the drummer's house was taken back by the old bassist. I'm stuck with my Acoustic B10.. As you can imagine, it's not really working out with the drums and 2 guitarists, especially not in a metal band. I was looking at a cabinet and I was wondering if I could hook it up to our vocalist's pa system and just plug the bass into his mixer thing (I apologize, I'm a little ignorant on the technical term for it haha) until I bought a head for it. Thanks in advance for the help :bassist:

Some pa systems will handle this better than others.
The guys in the band should be able to answer this more specifically, if they know how to run the pa well.

Well it's a pretty new system and our vocalist's first. On top of that we're not the oldest guys (still in highschool) so we don't know much on the subject. I asked him but he didn't know whether or not we could do this.

if you could tell us specifically what the pa system is composed of, we could maybe give you a more specific answer....
this could damage some systems, and be just fine with others.

I've actually done this for practice. Put your bass into the PA via direct box, put the cabinet for bass in one channel, the vocals in the other. Pan the channels so the vocals come out of one side, and the bass out the other. In other words, the bass would be in the right channel and the vocals in the left. Not the greatest set-up, but it will work for practice. Make sure your ohms match up, 8 ohms in each channel, 4 ohms in each channel, whatever works with the PA head you're using. We had two 8 ohm cabs in one side (making it 4 ohms) and one 4 ohm cab in the other channel. It worked.

Well I don't have too much experience with any pa systems or cabinets. Actually, I don't have ANY.. but when I find out what system he has maybe I can show you the system and the cabinet i'm looking at and you can tell me if it would work? and how I would go about doing it? Sorry, I'm what CoD players call a n00b, only at amps.. and with a life :D

Adam that would work and we've thought about it but I'm planning on buying a cabinet or 2 and head in the future and I'd like to start now and use the pa until I get the head. And as soon as he gets back to me i'll find specifically what kind of system he has and show you. thanks for your responses by the way :)

On the back of the pa system there are 3 output jacks, 2 reading 8 ohms and the other one saying main line I believe but I'm not too sure, I know it said main something.. the 8 ohm jacks are used by the 2 speakers. any help on all of this would be realllly great because i don't know anything about all of this electronic stuff
