Hi all and looking for help. I'm currently running an SWR 350, or Hartke 5500 or Markbass lm III with an Ampeg SVT 2x10 and 1x15. My problem is the cabs are now too heavy as I'm older (66). So I'm looking for lighter cabs that would sound as good? I've been researching Genz Benz Focus, Shroeder and Avatar cabs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What do you like about the two you have? Avatar make loads of cabs and aren't notably light compared to other neodymium loaded cabs. Schroeder have a funny tone as they give up low end to be small and loud, so they are middly. Not sure about the others, but the top pick for light cabs is Barefaced, so check those out, they have a fair range to suit.

There are plenty of lightweight options, but in the end, it will come down to your own preferences. I doubt you'll find anything that sounds exactly like the Ampeg cabs you're used to, but I used to use Ampeg SVT cabs, switched to Mesa Powerhouse, (even heavier), and finally landed on Genz Benz's Uber 212. It's a very loud, vintage-modern sounding cab, with wheels. Weighs in around 60 lbs, but easy to transport. That was my preference, after trying, (and buying) many "other" quality bass cabs. I'd suggest a bit of ears on demo with anything you can find locally.

I find Markbass cabs to be the lightest cabs i've ever used. I just got their New York 408 cab and that thing i can carry with one hand. They use really super light speakers and the cab is made out of super light poplar. They also sound killer.

G-K has many light weight offerings, sound very good, best value for your dollar. NEO, MBE are Poplar plywood cabs and G-K's own NEO bass drivers. I just picked up the NEO212 II, it's 50 lbs, sockets in place for pop out casters, sounds darn awesome. The 115 gets a lot of love as does the 10's.

Thanks for the info on the 2x12 which I did read good reviews. Have you heard anything or know anyone with their Focus Lite cabs. I'm just wondering how they sound compared to the Uber cabs? If I went Focus it would be a 2x10 and a 1x15.

Thanks for the info. I have a guitar center not too far away and I think they carry GK so maybe I could check them out if they have them in stock. Most times all they have is Ampeg and Fender in stock.
