CAD KBM412 for bass amp micing?

Does anyone use this with good results for bass amp micing. I am looking for a cheaper mic, preferably under $100, for recording my bass amp.

This mic is an old stand-by that just can't be improved upon. It's directional, therefore it will not grab the other instruments and noises around you. It won't pick up the wind bursts from your speakers either. You will get clean, crisp sound.

I have never used the CAB mic. It seems to be made for micing a bass drum which more often than not make it a suitable mic for bass cabinets. The Shure Beta 52 and AKG D112 are also drum mics that are commonly used for bass cabs.

I have a CAD KBM412 and it does a pretty good job on my bass amps and I have also used it to mic a really cranked guitar amp with really good results. Of all the mics that I have I prefer the KBM412 for my bass amps but usually go direct. BTW it also works well for low brass and woodwind instruments.
I do agree that a Shure SM57 is the best all around mic and every musician should have one or more.

Never would I use that mic on a bass. Scoopy McSlapperstein might like it, but that's because it's all lows and highs. I find bass drum mics the absolute worst you can use on bass unless you're into mid scooping. And quite honestly, I'm not all that crazy about them on bass drum, either. The 52 isn't bad, I guess, but that AKG D112 makes bass drums sound like dribbling a basketball.

The 57, while not the most ideal choice for a bass mic, is a great sounding mic on bass for not a lot of money. However, I like the 58 because it's got just a bit more oomph on the low end.

I would be willing to give a 990 a shot. Has a good response curve for bass. That doesn't tell the whole story but it gives you a good indication.

I might use it, my band is getting it for vocals and acoustic guitar, so it's worth a try.

jimmy m is correct, kick mics are usually horrid for bass cabs. Audix D6's for example want staying as far away from your bass cab as possible!

it makes sense to use a mic that naturally reproduces your bass tone with minimal color if you like your amp tone. s'why i use a RE20, Blue Mouse or an AKG C414xls.

leave your hi-mids alone people! lo-mids is where bass guitar wants cutting in your mix mostly.
