Did Waters ever play a 5 banger?

Only reason I am asking is that our Drummer is a mad Pink Floyd fan and we decided to learn The Wall for him.

Now I might get flamed for this but I cant learn by ear yet so was hunting for tabs. I know they are wrong 99% of the time and I have a good enough ear to correct most mistakes once I have the basic pattern.

Problem is the only Tabs I found that were even remotely close are all played on a 5 banger. I dont have one so that aint an option. I found a few tabs for 4 string but I have no idea what song they were tabbed from cause they aint even close lol.

I just dont remember ever seeing Waters playing a 5er. I am not a big fan of Pink Floyd so not surprising if he does and I have just never seen it.

I await all the "Tabs are from the devil" and "use your ears" replies so flame on.

tune down to D, that should be enough (the song is in Dm). I know nothing about Waters using a 5 string bass ever.

I will try drop tuning. To be honest I can see myself falling asleep half way through lol.

We just need to throw something in that our old crusty drummer will appreciate haha.

If you are talking about "Another Brick In The Wall, Pt. 2", then you only need to tune your E down to D.

Like the others said, Waters played in drop tuning sometimes. I'm pretty sure that he never played a 5-string though, to my information (I'm a pretty big Floydhead) he stuck with a P-bass.

He probably tuned down to a D as he always played 4 string P basses in Floyd. Why not get a D Tuner fitted, I have installed these on two of my basses and they work really well for ad hoc songs

We asked the Drummer what Floyd cover he wanted us to do. He picked it. About being bored, I will take one for the team Our guitarist plays 7 nation army with us and never complains lol

Like I said in the original post, I am not a big Floyd fan (Take that as "I have never owned an album and never listened to one front to back") so picking a more technical one isnt an option as I dont know any I play through a Chromatic tuner so down tuning is not a problem.

Anyway thanks for all the comments. I was a bit confused as I had only ever seen Waters with his P. I am no longer confused

For the record...he didn't 'always' use P basses, in the early days he played a Ric.

^ i think those were the very early days. like, syd barret era. i believe from the early 70s onward it was the maple fretboard standard 4 string P-bass.

Guy Pratt played a 5er with Pink Floyd's more recent (i.e. late 80s early 90s) tours. Roger Waters was Pink Floyd's original bassist, and I don't believe the 5 string electric bass had been invented when 'Money' was originally recorded.

Depending on who you ask, either David Gilmour or Roger Waters layed down the Money bassline on a P-bass, with the normal 4 strings. Guy Pratt played some parts an octave lower decades later, after Waters left.

Money is a prime example of classic P-Bass with flats and a pick... Guy Pratt played a P for that track on the Pulse dvd. He played a Status 5er on some songs but also used a Spector , a Status fretless and a Jazz bass for that concert.

I've always enjoyed Another Brick In The Wall despite the fact that it's one of the most overplayed pub songs ever, but then again the Wall was one of those albums that first got me passionate about music.

I'm not gonna flame you for using tabs but I will say that learning by ear is a skill and can be developed. What may take you an hour to figure out now might only take ten minutes a year from now if you persist at it. I learned that song before I knew about drop tuning and 5-strings and it confused the !@#$ out of me.

Roger Waters never played a 5-string bass in Floyd. He did play some stuff "Another Brick" in drop-d tuning. Money is probably the most popular Floyd sone (by bassists and others that dig the 7/8 time sign) to cover. None of Roger's baselines are very difficult to play, as is the case with most bands who's lead singer is also the bassist (with the exception of Rush).
