CALVIN TURNER/MARC BROUSSARD BASSIST

I just saw Marc play last Saturday and was blown away by Calvin. I was right in front of him the whole show and was completely in awe of his solid basslines and amazing grooves. He was rocking a beautiful Nordy bass through an Eden amp and even a Bootsy's Rubber Band shirt. He seemed like a very modest guy who just was really happy to be on stage. Probably the best bassist I've seen live aside from "the greats"

The wife and I are going to see Marc on Feb. 3rd. I've been a fan for few years and always dug Calvin's lines on the recordings and can't wait to see him live. You guys are getting me really worked up!

Man, I am really glad to see this posted on TB. My wife and I have seen Broussard maybe a dozen times. With kids and all its tough to get out, but when he comes to town we get out to see him. I'm pretty sure my wife would leave me in a second for Broussard.

Anyway, small gigs, bigger gigs... Calvin Turner is about the coolest bassist I have seen. Great tone, groove, tasteful, as you guys have mentioned above. Mojo in spades.

I pretty much want to be him.

Anyway, he had a variety of eden based rigs each time I have seen him.

Glad to see he is appreciated by guys in the know. Is he on TB?

I caught Marc Broussard last weekend at the Showbox in Seattle and was thoroughly blown away by Calvin's playing. I've been analyzing his basslines on the "Carencro" and "Keep Coming Back" albums using Transcribe software (I'm using it to slow the track down without affecting pitch) and attempting to play some of his stuff. I love that it's a nice combination of simple grooves and really tough licks. He has an incredible talent for knowing when to lay back and when to jump out to the front.

One thing that really impressed me about Marc's show was the overall vibe that he and his band put out. Hard to say if it was genuine or not, but Marc and the band seemed like they honestly cared about the crowd and wanted everyone to have a good time. I generally got the impression that they would be guys I could hang out with in day to day situations. That's something that always makes me enjoy a show even more. This was an incredible show to say the least.

Marc: We got some rules for this show.
Rule number one. When I dance. You dance.
[slight pause while Marc starts dancing]

Marc: Sigh... Y'all already in violation of rule number one.
Fines will be assessed on your wait out the door.

Saw Marc and Calvin last night. Got some grainy cell phone picks to share when I get home from work. Got some of him, his rig and his pedal board.

The show was awesome! The groove was greasy! The cat was way humble and friendly!
