Can a Luthier Do This?

Dude, trust me on this, LeCompte can, and will, build whatever you want. His work is impeccable and he knows his stuff. Not just sying this because I own one:D either. I have had many, many discussions with the man about woods, neck profiles, electronics, design, finishes, etc. He's just always on top of things and gets back to you very quickly. Go over to the Luhtiers Corner forum and look at the "Pics By Request" thread and scroll through. Take your time cuz it's pretty big!

Many of the luthiers out there will do this for you. One in particular is Mark Garza of Garz Guitars. I am having him start a bass for me next week, a 4 string SC.

You will have to get precise measurements of the Modulus neck, if you have a local tech or wood worker, they can measure for you.

Another great builder is Chris Stambaugh and I believe that Pete Hanewinckel will also carve a custom neck for you. I have heard great things about Bud as well...the only decision to make is which one you feel the most comfortable with.

Better to get the actual neck or bass to the builder in question. Having the builder do the measurements (there can be several on a neck) takes one of the variables out of the equation.

Could you still get a smiliar neck profile, say, if my Modulus is a bolt on but I would want a neck thru?? Obviously the heel of the neck would be different..

I don't personally have a LeCompte... yet! But I've been talking to Bud over the last few days about making a project for me. Trying to make it as custom and as difficult as possible for him, and he doesn't seem to have a problem with it! I would definately stress researching and making sure you are SURE of what you want before you build something. Not only can one off custom orders be difficult to get made right, they can sometimes be hard to sell for anything remotely close to what you paid for them. Just something to think about, I wouldn't hesitate trying to challenge Bud though, I'm doin the best I can ;)

I misunderstood. I thought you were looking to have the neck replaced on the Modulus with a wooden neck, but you want a whole new bass with a neck that feels similar to the Modulus. I got ya.

I couldn't do a neck-thru 'cause I don't build neck-thru's. I could do a set-neck single cut and get it close. It would be easy to get the width of the nut and the width at the last fret the same. It would also be easy to get the thickness of the neck the same in the lower registers. I could get close to the same shape more than likely. It would probably be hard to match the fingerboard radius exactly. Close but not exact. I've found that everyone's 12" radius (pick a number) is not the same.

Ahh, ok.. Thanks for the info!! Neck-thru is just an idea but not really stuck on it.. Again, I'm still in the deciding stages of things and looking at all of my options.. I'm not looking for an exact replica of my Modulus neck.. Just something more similar to it. I've played many basses that very good too me but the Modulus neck felt "right" to me.. So, something close to it would be fine.

I'll be in contact if I need some more info!
