Hello fellow members. Right now I working on a bass on my bench here at home. It has a neck date saying that it is a late 70s precision "S" serial number which checks out on Fender's list as a late 70's. The guy that I'm working on it for said it was his Dad's bass. It's a PJ configuration and I can tell from looking at the routs that it was not routed after the fact and that it came with the PJ routes already in it. The finish is also quite strange It is deep reddish color almost a maroon It looks like wine red But again I can't be sure. The neck plate has the "F" logo and a 6 digit SN that would make be bllieve it's a late 60's early 70's plate. But it doesn't come up in Fenders database. The tuners are period correct late 70's style.
Like I said it is a PJ and it has a set of Barts in it. It has an active preamp but not one that I have ever seen before. The control layout is master volume blend and then a base and treble with center detents. It had some issues but a little bit of deoxy and tightening up The blend pot took care of those. I'm trying to find information for my customer on what kind of a preamp this is a google search using Lens Turned up nothing that looked like this preamp so now I am turning to the experts my fellow TalkBass members. Any help in ID-ing this bass is appreciated.
