Can get a Spirit XT-2 for cheap...but those select pickups...

I know tbe EMG Select pick-ups are weak. I will not buy the bass if I have to put $200 more for actives EMG- HB pickups to get a decent sound.
My question is, does anyone played these Emg select pickups through a Sansamp BDDI?
Does it give the sound enough meat to not have to change the pickups?
I'm on the market to find a used BDDI anyway.

I don't mind the old EMG select pickups. I've put them in cheap basses on purpose and considered them an improvement. Never tried them through the BDDI that I used to own. Tried to set it at transparent as possible and use for its DI only. The current Spirits do not use EMG Selects, according to the official website they are Steinberger HB pickups. Don't know what they sound like.

For me the trick was to raise the E string side of the pups to get a good balance out of the Selects. Once I did that, I was happy with the sound.

About 15 years ago I had a Spirit ( the one with a normal body).
The Emg Select pickups sounded 'sterile' whatever I tried.

I think i get a pretty good sound with the EMG Select pickups on my XT-2DB and even better with the BDDI. I think it sounds very powerful and "meaty". I would really recommend you to try it if you haven't already.
