Can i use guitar pedal?

Wrong again. Only SOME distortion pedals 'obliterate low-ends'! You need to review everything on a case by case basis. It's a mistake to say that all guitar distortion pedals kill the low end, or that a blender will fix it. I've tried several guitar distortion pedals that sounded great on bass, and I personally really don't like the sound that blending tends to give (often a 'layered' sound).

I don't mean to be so 'picky' about it, but since we're obviously dealing with new folks in this area it's important to be very careful about the advice we give...

Actually some guitar distortion can be use on bass. it depends if the guitar distortion pedal has a good low pass filter. that's what makes some guitar distortion pedals useful on bass. overdrive pedals is usually the most common effects for bass. also some people like blended sounds. it give them a pretty killer sound without obliterating low-end. however there are distortion pedals made for bass. they all have different sounds and many bassists have different tastes in sound quality. when it comes to choosing effects, it is best to try them out and see what's right for them.

You can destroy any pedal, guitar or bass if you stomp on it too hard. Using a guitar pedal can destroy your tone if you set it wrong, but 5/6 of my board are not instrument specific pedals. A lot of amnufacturers out there recognize that we, in the bass community use pedals too and are making their pedals such that they work with either.
