Run a 4Ohm head into a 2Ohm cabinet?

I am wiring my new cab soon and I want to know if i can do this... I am going to be witing 2 4Ohm speakers in series or paralell, giving me either a total of 2 or 8 Ohms.

My head (Ampeg B1RE) can be run at either 8 or 4 ohms. 4 Ohms gives me more power.

Can I run a 4Ohm Head into a 2 Ohm cab without burning it out?

No.

Running a 2 ohm load on a head rated for 4 ohms will damage the amp.

You should wire them in series or get two 8 ohm speakers.


Your amp is rated 300w at 4 ohms. At 8 ohms you will only be getting 175w of that power.

You should be designing a 4 ohm cab.

ok... thats what i though...

see, i'm using free speakers... so i can't redesign my cab.

I'm more than happy just running at 8OHMS and getting the 175W, i was just checking.
