my band wants to record a cheap demo just to hear the song in decent quality but i need to know if this is safe
my mixer(crate) has a tape out, i am supposed to conect the tape out in the PC line in right?
everything is miced in to the PA and we are recording separate tracks anyway

my 2 cents: For bass, it isn't unheard of to go just direct into the board...

What media are you using? If it's digitial (as in to a computer) you can shape your tone anyway you want to after you record (depending on your software - but even Acid has many options, and it is CHEAP)

You are recording each member separately that would be separate tracks. If your playing as a band then your just on separate channels of the PA and sending the stereo output of the mixer to the PC into Audacity. The first way your going to mix with Audacity. The second your going to mix on your PA mixer and just use the Audacity as a recorder. It a terminology thing, but also determines how much control your going to have.
