Can we talk about wiring options for pedal power?

I seem to go through these phases where I build a moderately sized pedalboard, then decide I want to downsize because I don't want to lug around another huge box of something... but then I miss all the effects that I removed to make space. So I thought, maybe I can make one of those hinged lid single level boards that seem so cool. Had some leftover Baltic Birch from a previous project that was more than adequate for this build.

This time I did something I never do... I started building with just a general idea of what I wanted. Then I just sort of adjusted the build on the fly as I went along. Probably a mistake... but it seemed to turn out alright.

However, now that it's done I realized the one critical flaw in my plan. I never thought about how I would wire it up for power. I can't really find any pics on the internet of how people have done these types of boards. It's either completely empty, or closed with pedals on top.

If you own a board with a hinged lid, how did you wire it? I know I could figure out something on my own, but I'd like to get some inspiration from those of you that have done this before.

I also left enough space on the front where I could cut a few inches off the top lid and add a MIDI switcher if I decided to go that route someday. That would allow a few more pedals on the lower deck.

Right now it's about 90% complete. I've sanded it down and added a few coats of shellac as a sealer. Now I just need to decide if I leave it "natural" or paint it with some quality paint.

I'll probably add a lid at some point with a breakaway hinge on the back. That way I can transport it with minimal fuss.

So if you have a hinged board I'd love to see pics of how it's wired up.

Pics with the pedals are just to see if things would fit prior to adding the shellac. I also have a Cioks DC-5 I could add to the underside of the top lid if needed.

I went down this rabbit hole back in 2018, my build is in my tag. Your welcome to have a look through it. I used Strymon Ojai’s to power my board. I plug straight into the unit and cut an IEC cable hole for access. Most of my effects have their own feeds, but there’s a few daisy chains. Digital pedals can eat 100’s of mA, far more than analogue pedals. Usually they all need isolated feeds and lots of juice. My board is fully digital and currently supplies just under 2.5 amps @ 9v. With digital effects, there’s two more cables to consider…midi (generally in and thru per device) and a USB cable to hook up to a PC. Getting a large 7/8/10 port USB hub helps too. Unfortunately, USB cables aren’t available in custom lengths (with angled plugs). So there’s always some spaghetti wiring with USB cables. Midi cables are generally quite large and bulky too. The lowest profile I’ve found are the Rockboard range. But these don’t have adjustable heads. So they don’t always work with some pedals. My preference for midi cables are the EBS blue dot range, but they can be hard to plug in and have very scares supply. Often it’s the midi cable’s min distance that set the pedal spacing.
The Rockboard or EBS flats are the lowest profile interconnects, if you go for a looper/switcher at some point, you will need long cables to run from the board to the underside of your hinged lid so you can open it without the cables restricting it.
