Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to integrate all my equipment into one system. I'm thinking I need a bigger/better. What I'd like to do is hear everything out of one set of speakers. I'm not that smart at this stuff, and I don't want to put cables where they don't belong!
There are a few different things I do with my stuff:
-convert Dad's 8track reel-to-reel tapes to digital format (need 8 inputs)
-record via mic (usually vocals, sometimes instruments via condenser mic)
-jam on my bass while listening to music from my computer on the same headphones
The equipment I normally use is:
-PC (record/sample/sequence via software)
-Mac (edit videos, web browsing etc)
-Tascam US144 mkII 2 channel digital audio interface (USB)
-Fostex 8-track reel-to-reel tape deck
-M-audio USB midi keyboard
-Yamaha DX7 synthesizer
-Passive Fender Jazz bass
-Behringer UB1202 12 channel mixer (some in-outs are dead)
What I was thinking (which didn't work) was that I could use the speaker outs form both the PC and Mac along with the 8-track outs into the mixer, then use the mixer control room out into my computer speakers. (Someday I plan to get powered monitors). Then I could use the Main outs from the mixer to go into the inputs on my USB interface, so that I could record whatever signal was coming in to the mixer into my computer.
I realize this is very convoluted, but I was just curious how you guys have your stuff set up. as it is right now, I'm constantly moving stuff around, swapping cables depending on what stuff I'm using. I just want one central place where I go to to control and hear everything.
