Can you learn Bass on a four-string Guitar?

ANNND...now thanks to YouTube free fall...I found out that if the one string thing doesn't work...you can always get a tin can lid and a clip and play drums on that guitar...this is just genius level improvising
Wrong. An electric bass is NOT a guitar with 4 strings. They require completely different techniques. I can spot a guitar player playing bass from a mile away.

"Learnt" is an acceptable variant, especially for someone outside of North America.

If you have the bottom 4 strings of a guitar, tuned standard (E, A, D, G) then you can learn the notes and play bass lines. But you won't actually be learning bass, any more than learning to drive a farm tractor qualifies you to drive in the Indy 500.
And as a former English major, I have to correct you. LEARNED is the proper past tense of learn, not learnt.
Actually, I played Saxophone for 4 years (middle school band), and at one time I could figure out most of the woodwind instruments. Fingerings were similar enough, I could even play my brother's oboe.
Although those sound like total crap is not played by someone skilled and dedicated to years of practice. Much like the bag pipes and banjo. Hey, there's an idea for an ensemble! Bag pipes (different ranges), oboe and banjo.

To those who think my question is stupid or trolling, well, there seems to be quite a few people who started off learning Bass on four-stringed guitars so I don't think it's as 'out there' as you seem to think.

Yes.
That is what I did while I was saving to buy my first bass.
I took my Yayashi semi-acoustic electric guitar and removed the B and E string.
I then notched the nut and spaced the E,A,D and G strings out evenly.
I had a "bass"until I got my Music Man Sabre.
