Can't record to the PC

Bass into the effects pedal, pedal into the amp, 1/4" from amp's Send, to PC's 1/8" mic/line-in...nothing.

Bass directly into the PC's 1/8" mic/line-in...still nothing.

Checked the Properties for recording...tried both "microphone" and "line-in" for Windows XP...nada.

Also tried Auacity but it acts same as Win Sound Recorder...like neither of them are getting a signal in.

I'm really not good with this kind of thing but this seemed like it should have been plug and play. I'm sure it's my fault and not the PC's (it's kinda new, unlike me). Any help, thoughts, suggestions?

You're using the send, but not the return of your amp? What amp are you using? Are you sure you can send without the amp expecting a return? When you have this cable plugged in to the send but not the return, do you still pass signal through the amp to the speaker?

Yes, just using the "Send/CD Input"...not the "Return."

What amp are you using?

When you have this cable plugged in to the send but not the return, do you still pass signal through the amp to the speaker?
Yes, I get sound from the amp.

In the XP Control panel is an icon for "Sound and Audio Devices". Click "Audio" or "Voice" and a popup box with several volume controls shows up, one of them is microphone. It would be nice if it were as simple as that.

If that doesn't help, do you have anything else you can try to send the signal to, e.g. my Samsung mp3 has a 1/8 input for recording? Or use an adapter and input to a hi-fi. This would verify that it either is/is not a pc problem.

FWIW, here's what the manual says:

(6) Post-EQ EFX Loop (MAX 112 and 115 only)
This section allows you to add an effect or connect a CD player post-EQ or after settings have been
applied to the EQ section (see 4).

SEND/CD INPUT: This standard 1/4" input jack allows you to connect a tape or CD player to
your MAX Series bass amp and play along. The jack also allows you to
connect the input of an effects unit to your MAX Series amp (see Return
below).

RETURN: Used in conjunction with the Send/CD input, this jack allows you to complete the
loop of the effects patched in by inserting the output from the effects unit into the
return jack.

Tape/CD Input:
(Stereo cable must be used)
Impedance: High-Z, 100 k ohms
Nominal Input Level:
-8.0 dBV‚ 398 mV RMS

Effects Loop:
Nominal send and return level:
-10 dBV‚ 325 mV RMS

yeah, i started to respond a few days ago, but that whole "Send" doubles as "CD Input" thing threw me off. i even looked up your manual.

you tried Headphone out to see if you're not having an issue with PC? it will be a hot signal, so watch it, but you can at least find out if your not having a PC issue.

After downloading new drivers and updated software stuff for SigmaTel from the LG Electronics website, I finally got the PC to record sound using Sound Recorder. The sound totally sucks...really muddy. It's the same no matter how I 'wire' it:
Bass direct into the PC at the mic.
Bass into pedal, pedal into amp, out via "Send" to PC at the mic.
Bass into pedal, pedal into amp, out via Headphones to PC at the mic (although this is louder, it's just as muddy).

I'm pretty sure the pedal is cable right. I followed Behringer's instructions and it works fine...bass into pedal, out to the amp's Input.

Seems like it's def a PC issue...since the new drivers helped...and I plugged into a HP computer and it worked a lot better.

Make sure you are not clipping the waveform (maxing out in the signal window of sound recorder or Audacity). This will definately give you a "muddy" sound. I can typically only put the slider levels up about 1/3 or less and my output should be less than a headphone output.
