Carbon coated?

I tried an Ibanez acoustic bass with black strings in a musicstore today, and the strings felt and sounded good to me.
They turned out to be Ibanez Carbon-coated strings.
My problem is that they only sell as four string sets, but I would like to buy them for my fiver.
Does anybody know if someone else manufactures/sells carbon-coated strings?
