Carbon expression out

So I have a carbon copy delay that I added an expression out to so when you hit a momentary switch it ramps up the regen. It works well until I put it back in the enclosure. When the pedal and expression plug are both touching the enclosure at the same time the pedal will only do a slap back type thing and the expression does nothing. I'm new to this and I'm not really sure what's going on. Thanks for the help. Here's a pic of it.

Well you'd have to prevent all of the metal areas of the Jack from grounding to the enclosure.. this includes the face the shaft and the washer/nut. I, for that reason, use plastic jacks for all but the output jack in pedals.
