Career Advice Needed...

This is my first new thread on TB and it's about something that I've been thinking a lot on lately.
I am a sophomore at university and will be entering my computer engineering major later this year. Needless to say I am very very interested in anything related to computers and electronics...
Other than comps, I cannot go a day without music.. playing or listening and for around 6 months now I've been teaching myself the bass. I've also been learning the piano since i was 9.
I really want to know what kinds o jobs i can get/hope to get as a computer engineer which will put me in any musically oriented field.
Any help/comments you can offer are appreciated.

Unless you are very lucky (talented would help) both fields demand a masters degree to break away from your peer group and count on any stability and/or long range employment. Talk to your facility advisor about how you can go about combining those two interests. If you have not had a talk with your facility advisor, now would be a good time for the two of you to get to know each other.

Avatar and the entertainment business come to mind.

I would imagine that there is a demand for software developers in pretty much any aspect of the music biz. Most studios these days are well more than 50% out of a computer. Most gear companies rely on comps to make their gear.

Hate to admit this, but you'll have an easier time getting a job in the music biz as a "computer guy" than most musicians (regardless of talent . . . on both ends)

I'll have to work to fund my post grad studies... any chances of getting a job in the music biz in that gap ?
and yes, I'll be meeting with my dept. counsellor soon, but i thought i'd ask on here and a few other places just to see other ideas..

It's a bit of a roll of the dice, but you should have an advantage if you can find an opening in a firm that produces music-related software (or hardware that becomes your area).
