If you can afford an HD48, you can afford a car.
I stopped riding bikes (Triumph Bonneville at the time) when I could only afford a scoot or a car, had my bass on my back and it started to rain, and I realized that if I went down, I would take a major hit on my two only possessions of any value (the bike and the bass).

Not what the OP wants to hear, but true.

I love my motorcycle, but if I could only afford a car or a bike, there are way more reasons to own a car. No really good reason to own a bike if you can't afford both. IMHO.

haha, this is a VERY OLD THREAD I bumped by the way..

Made it to practice with the bass on the back, going over 40 mph was about the line where I started to feel uncomfortable & it wasn't a windy day. I got the experience & I'll definitely avoid this in the future, it wasn't fun!

i'm in a ninja 500, and i ride with a bass or guitar on my back several times a week.

the longest of those rides is 25 minutes and about 17 miles. most others are less than 10 minutes.

its weird at first, and not as comfortable as riding with just a backpack or nothing at all.

i've even ridden (again, about 10 minutes away) with a guitar and violin both strapped to my back. it can be done.

I was hoping for some amazing discovery that didn't involve me having to purchase a sidecar that costs as much or more than my bike. I guess I will continue to take the car to practice for now until something affordable comes along for the bike.

I just ordered one of Link Removed.
Hoping it fits well enough in my backpack that I can ride without it being prohibitive.
I'm expecting the headstock to stick out of my pack some, but it shouldn't be much of a bother.
Should be pretty secure too if I throw a twist-tie between the zippers and make sure my straps are tight.

Once I saw a guy who was carrying a surfboard aside of his bike. He had fixed a sort of metal rod on the left side of his motorbike. Maybe this could be feasible for a bass too.
