Carvin 6 String Fretless

Ok so I have a very newb question to ask all you, what do you think about Carvin Fretless? More specifically a 6 string fretless Carvin, not sure the model but here is the link.

I think it's a pretty smoking deal, this is what he told me about it.


"The bass has a koa and alder body, neck thru design, active/passive pickups with a push/pull selector switch on the volume knob, volume, balance, high, mids, low control knobs. The action is great and the neck is in fantastic shape. The fretless sound is very nice. I prefer the passive sound of the pickups, and you can sculpt the sound very well with the tone controls. The model is a LB76F from I believe the early 2000s."

This will be my second 6 string bass, but my first fretless, so I'm not sure exactly what to expect.

Anyways input would be greatly appreciated!

I owned a very similar Carvin 6 string fretless which I just sold recently for $600 so I would say that is a fair price - Carvin's have lousy resale value so I don't think that it's a great deal. They are very good basses, excellent woodwork, good tone. I am not a 6 string player so I sold mine but it was a good bass.

Not exactly a smokin' deal given Carvins have lousy resale, but that is good because it means you get a smokin' bass for cheap. And that's especially true as this is a relatively modern Carvin (active/passive, mid control etc.) which are excellent instruments. Given the bass is in great shape, it would be hard to go wrong here.

If it were me, I'd like the bass a lot better if the pickups were huge humbuckers rather than the Carvin Jazz pickups which I've never liked. And also if they are stacked coil J pickups I've always hated the tone of those, and if they are not, you'll have single coil hum to contend with. But these are minor points. The overall bass will be a killer instrument for the money.
