Carvin bx1500

I have been using a bx1200 as my main gigging and band rehearsal amp for over 4 years, not one problem(knock on wood) i pair it with a br4x10 and a br1x15 neo. i run mine biamped, crossover at about 9 o clock.Passive jazz bass eq pretty much flat, slight mid bump. For most of the clubs we play it is a little over kill. great amp for the money. I've owned a few nice heads over the years (34) and this is one of my favorites.Been looking at the br510 combo lately for smaller clubs we play at.I like Carvin for the money.

The fact that you have two separate amps, two separate volume knobs, two EQ sections, and the ability to set the crossover point between each cab makes the BX1500 (and its predecessor the BX1200) very unique and useful amps in the market. It’s designed to overcome almost any problem you might encounter as a bass player; bad acoustics, boomy stages, mismatched cabs, whatever. Tons of power (2 x 450w @ 4 ohms per channel) and a pre-amp tube to boot! Selling it for 600 bucks is really just rubbing it in.

Hey guys,

I have been considering the Bx 1500 or the B 2000. I like the idea of being able to Bi-Amp the bx 1500, that being said I need opinions on Cabs. I have been liking 15 cabs as of late and I know its best to pair like cabs such as 2 15's , 2 210's etc.

But I got to thinking what if I paired a 115 with a 118 and Bi-amped it. The 115 has a good tone to me and has plenty of highs for my taste and the 118 is close to the 115 in terms of size...Would this work? I would also imagine with a brighter instrument this could sound killer? The head would be the bx 1500..I thought of getting the whole Carvin Rig...With a Br115n and a 118.

Opinions would be appreciated and if you think it would be overkill let me know.

Bi-amping is basically useless. The 18 is not going to put out much more than the 15 already is. I suggest getting two 15's and running them full range. You will not get more low end out of the 18 than you would from two 15's. The BX1500 has a lot of tone controls in addition to the bi-amping capabilities. The B2000 is more a of "simple and loud" concept for tone. Both are good products, but I like having tone flexibility especially since I play on so many different stages. I have 2 BX1200's. (previous model).

I disagree about the “useless” bi-amp thing although I agree that running them full-range with identical 15” cabs is a good option. I run BX1200 in bi-amp mode and like the versatility of it. We play both small rooms and medium-to-large sized stages though so your requirements may be different than mine. Every room/stage is different and I like the fact I can control each cab individually.

You would think Carvin would have the ribbon cable issue resolved before they even put them on the market. The RL series have issues with the ribbon cables too.

FWIW, I ran my RL1000 rig bi-amped with a 410 and a 118 for many years and was happy. I got another 410 and have been running them full range for awhile now and I am much happier.

I'm sure it's louder and clearer with the new setup.

Feel free to disagree - our gig requirements are very different then. I play bars and smaller music venues (up to around 2,000 people), and almost every time I can hear, feel and see the subwoofers right on stage. So having a BUNCH of low end coming out of my rig creates a wall of low end around me which results in me not hearing a darn thing I play. Rolling off the low end of my rig is helpful - I still hear/feel the lows from the subs; it's basically a free bi-amp rig.

If it works for you, rock it hard! :bassist:

I hear what you're saying but I play through 12" cabs, one sub and one 3-way. A few weeks ago I played on a hollow stage so I turned down the sub and turned the 3-way up a bit. The sub colored the sound some but wasn't loud and kind of provided a buffer between the stage and my 3-way.
The next gig was on a hard floor, probably cement underneath it, with no PA support so I dialed up the sub a littler louder than the 3-way and it sounded great. That's the flexibility.
If I played big stages like you I might have to get different/bigger cabs and run full range because it's definately louder running the head in full range mode. I just don't need it, yet anyway.

I'm gassing for one of these to power my Fearful 15/6. Couldn't help notice all the ribbon cable complaints while reading up on the amp. I bet this would take care of the issue for good:

Dielectric grease or noalox.

Amazon.com: Noalox® Anti-oxidant Compound (4 Oz. Bottle): Electronics

I'll give it a try if I wind up with a BX1500 of my own.

Luke

Your way way off with this stuff. The problem has nothing to do with pipe threads or seizing.

Deoxit...period.

Perhaps.

It's for electrical connections and wires as well. It prevents oxidation (dirt, corossion). It may prevent the problem that detox it is repairing.

Or dielectric grease easily available, also used on electrical connections.

had the same prob with my bx500. started just after the warranty died. doing the ribbon thing worked but it's 'dropped out' again after a couple months. i wanna love carvin, great power, tone, etc, but not worth constantly having to pop the top and do what is unnecessary maintenance.
