For sale Carvin J99 Pickup

I'm not sure but I think this is the older series, ceramic. The new ones I believe have a brown dot. I don't know how they list the ones that are reverse wound.

I think the humbuckers---H50A---have a red dot.

Whatever.....this is a great buy on a quality pickup.

You are right, I didn't say in my listing that is was a J99A. This is a J99, ceramic, not J99A, which is Alnico - although this pickup is pretty new. J99s still are available new from Carvin. Some people prefer the more aggressive sound of ceramic. Thanks.

Bartolini, EMG, and many others use ceramic in their pickups.
Again.........great price on a fine pickup!

Red dot: single coil or with dummy coil to make it quiet.

That is not correct. Red dot is a humbucker only, not single coil. Furthermore, Carvin does not make pickups with "dummy coils," they are either stacked or side-by-side humbuckers, where both coils are active.

Carvin pickup identification:
J99 = black dot
H50N = no dot
H50S = blue dot
J99A = tan/brown dot
H50A = red dot

Ok, let me muddy the water a little more........I bought a Carvin PU here on Talkbass that was supposed to be an H50N........it has a yellow dot on the back.........so what do I really have????

The yellow dot has nothing to do with the model per se, but it is to indicate that it's a reversed single coil to work in tandem with a normal or non-reversed single coil to cancel hum, as specified in my listing. A pickup with the yellow dot it's a single coil, but it could be a J99 or J99A. J99 = black dot; J99A = tan/brown dot.
