Carving initials into bass

Anyone have a story on this? Might hurt resale value depending on value of one’s initials but I think it adds an interesting if not value reducing touch to a vintage instrument.

I’m not kidding actually. But to expand I think if a teenage kid carved his initials into a 62 precision bass back when he owned it then, I think it’s cool. But not buying one now and carving, no way. It’s something you do as a kid. I like a good story

I've seen vintage gear with phoine numbers and social security numbers carved, etched, scratched, whatever, into them.

This made me laugh out loud. Back in the day when I lived in the barracks, my 1SG made us put our name and SSN on anything of value. My old Marshall head still has my name and ssn written on the inside with a sharpie. Lol.

That said, if you plan on an identifying mark of some sort, either use a UV light marker somewhere inconspicuous on the innards or put a chip in it like you would a pet. No reason to do an otherwise destructive thing as carving. That's for turkeys (in more ways than one).

It depends upon whether or not you might want to sell the bass and if it might get stolen. This is a picture of one of Ted Nugent's Gibson Byrdland guitars. He has his initials and instrument inventory identifier burned into the back of the guitar.
