I have an outdoor gig behind a bar this weekend, so I'm looking to run a borrowed GK MB210 and my GK MB115 together for more volume.
Don't have an AB splitter or the parts to make a split cable.
On a whim, I tried plugging my bass into the passive input of the 210, then plugging a cable from the active input of the 210 into the passive input of the 115.
I did this because my friend showed me this trick with one of his guitar amps. Apparently, the inputs on multi-input amps tend to be wired in series or parallel or something, so guitar players have long used this as a trick to patch their guitar into both the first and second input of an amp for a different sound.
Anyway, I was only able to barely turn up the volume on each amp as it's very late here, but we have success! I got a signal from both amps.
My question is, what's actually happening here? My guess is that there is some sort of buffer on the active input jack that's not on the passive input jack, meaning that my signal is passing through this buffer before hitting the 115.
I doubt this will be a problem as I can probably compensate for the gain on the 115 as needed, but I like to understand how and why stuff works.
Any theories?
Edit: I should mention that I understand the theory behind this wiring, but I don't understand how the different circuitry of the active vs. passive inputs come into play.
