Cheap custom compaines??

I found a link to the peavey 'design your own cirrus' website,and it's kind of wetted my appetite for a custom made bass.

I'm only looking for a standard shape, but want to spec the woods/finish etc.

Any recommendations? How much would I be looking at? The Cirrus customs are around $2500, reckon I could get something cheaper than that? I know there's warmoth...

There are many, many cheaper basses.

Carvin.com is the best known, I think.
FBBcustom.com
Wishbass.com (really cheap, but unique if your OK with cheap)

Just google search custom bass and you'll run into a rather large list you can sift through and drool over. Enjoy.:hyper:

The Peavey Cirrus is a good choice...I have 2. If you really have your heart set on a custom model, go for it. I'm not sure what the secondhand market is like in the UK, but I'd be on the lookout for a used standard Cirrus. It will run a fraction of the cost of a custom jobbie and probably play / sound just as good. FTR, a used Cirrus standard here in the colonies will run about $750 - 900 depending on woods, finish, and condition.

Chris Stambaugh is supremely reasonable, price wise. I think his waiting list is pretty extensive, though. But, he's also a great guy; fer instance (last I heard), a lot of wood choices incur no upcharge, unless the it's a really, really pricey wood.

Peavey basses go for way cheap on the used market, including the Cirrus.

In fact, you would be hard pressed to get more bass for less cash than a used Cirrus.

I'm going end yet another sentence with the name Cirrus.

Two UK makers who are worth a look for inexpensive-but-great customs are:

Jon Shuker - www.shukerguitars.co.uk - he'll build more or less anything you want, and he's very reasonably priced.

Alan Cringean - ACG Guitars - www.acguitars.co.uk - Alan posts here sometimes as "Skelf". His basses are very well designed and quite original, and his pickups and active circuit are unique - probably the nearest thing you'll find tonally to a Wal nowadays.

They'll both do you a great bass for under a grand...
