Double Bass Cheap EUB strings?

A friend of mine is making an EUB (his first home built instrument) and is looking for strings. Are there any sources for cheaper strings? Anyone have an old set they'd give away or sell? As it's his first build he doesn't want to break the bank on strings only to have the whole thing not work out.

Lots of used strings for sale all the time here. If you posted this in the Wanted: Double Basses, Amps and Accessories forum you might get some more hits.
For new sets check with Bob and Mark at here. They have several options from Corelli, D'Addario and LaBella for under $100.

With new sets going typically from $200+ up to $500 or more for some guts the trade in used ones is very brisk around here!

There are cheap sets on Ebay less than $30.
