Cheap Firewire Find?

I ran across the following:
Invalid Link Removed

Sells online for less than $100, mic and guitar/bass input, firewire, seems to good to be true. Has headphone

Expect to use to record guitar and bass in to Garageaband or Audacity.

has headphone out that is same as line 1/2 out.

Will this cause monitoring problem? Looks like I would have to rely on software to send me a mix, which may create latency problem.

Can you elaborate on where you bought the Miglia and what software and version of OS X you're using? I know you mentioned Garageband or Audacity as a chosen recording choice, but has this changed since your purchase? Some Firewire devices come with some type of audio software nowadays, if so are you using that instead?

I am using most recent version of OSX that came with my Macbook (intel dual core) in December.

The Miglia came from Nerds.net. Other places sell it for around $120. No software with the Miglia. Have had no problems in GB or Audacity, although I have very little experience with recording onto Mac.

Plugged it in, Mac saw it immediately.

I'm not exactly a PC n00b, but I have very little experience when it comes to home recording. I've been getting by using the XLR out from my amp (SVT-VR) into the onboard sound on my home-built PC. And yeah, I get a LOT of digital noise/interference. I use Adobe Audition (used to be CoolEdit Pro) to remove most of the noise but this is proving to be an in-elegant solution. I feel like I'm losing some sound quality by doing this, even when trying to isolate the noise floor produced by the interference.

Anyway! Reading this thread, this Miglia device sounds fantastic. I'm a bit fuzzy though on a few things. This device simply plugs into the firewire port and is used only for recording, correct? It doesn't interface with the sound-card in any way?

Otherwise, can anyone recommend an alternative? I'd really like to keep the sound of my amp in the recording, and I'm under the impression that this isn't always possible when using a DI. I'd like to keep the total expenses around $200.

This firewire device is, for all intents and purposes, an external sound card. Has inputs and outputs. When I record, I plug my headphones into the Miglia headphone jack and I hear what I would hear from the Mac headphone output.
