Cheap, loud, used. What should I be looking for?

Gotta go with Peavey for loud and cheap. Many people move on from there as their tastes change.

The first bass amp I used was an SVT that belonged to my first band. The amp I OWNED was a peavey. So was the third, because if you get the right ones, they're cheap and loud.

A small shop near me in Central NJ has a used Peavey Tour Series 450 amp & a used Peavey 4x10 cab for sale. Probably ~ 1 hour drive from the Bronx, tops. The cab can be had for < $250, and I don't know the asking price on the amp, but it can't be much based on the price for a new one.

I've played through the cab, but not the amp. The weight is a back-breaker, but then again, it's a Peavey.

The shop is closed, though, 'til the 19th for NAMM. My only affiliation with this shop is as a paying customer, and frequent browser.

Peavey is the obvious choice. You might also look for used Carvin gear as well. Lots of bang for the buck!

Honestly? Craigslist. In my area there's a load of Avatar cab such as this listing

which, when coupled with the Sansamp RBI/QSC 850 listing in the classifieds here make a 600 dollar killer stage ready amp. Keep up with the big dogs at that point.

Another one for Peavey here. SOOOOOOOOOO many choices that will all cut it. As already called out, the old Mark IV heads are great(I had one with the 1820 cab-KILLER), or look fir the Max 450 or 700, brick sh*thouses with a ton of power. Actually, if you can find one, get the MegaBass, and throw it on a 2x15 cab, you won't be sorry!
For a combo, the older TNT 130 will do fine, as would a more modern TNT or Combo(that's the model name).

If you're looking that cheap I'd suggest you get an old Peavey Mark VI or something along those lines, and an old Peavey cab and stick a Kappalite 3015 in there.

Just remember that all of the Peavey Mark series bass heads run max power at 2 ohms

Brand doesn't matter, finding a combo amp, used, for your price is ALL that matters. if at all possible, go check out ANYTHING listed in your area within your range, and buy what sounds best to you.

I picked up a Peavey T-Max recently, less than a month ago. Its in great shape. The power really surprised alot of people, including my neighbors. I also have an older GK 1x15 cab that I picked up at GC parking lot before it made it to the store. I am willing to let the forum dictate the fairness price on these two. I will forward pictures as well if you are interested. I would part with them for about $400.00. Will reduce price depending on shipping agreement. Let the forum speak !

I found the best rig I've ever had for $450 at my local craigslist... it's a Peavey Firebass 700 with a matched 412 cab.
