Dear All - I am sure this has been covered...but my searches keep turning up threads about budget PA setups etc... ** I AM IN CHINA **

I need 6 cheap but not terrible microphones for a couple rehearsal rooms we have set up for our Rock Band program in our high school.

We are very small - and the budget is quite limited. It is a factual restraint...so unfortunately waiting to buy better mics orI am thinking something like a Behringer XM8500 - however, those are not as cheap here (about $60 a piece). Hopeful someone will know a similar mic under a different brand...

    Any suggestions? (For reference a SM48 would be about $120 - a SM58 would be about $170)

I have about $200 too use (we receive a certain amount of funding based on student participation)

    Thank-you!

Electro-Voice Co9 Cobalt are listed at $69.99 at Musiciansfriend.com. If you call MF, they will most certainly give you a discount, especially if you buy multiple mics.

  3. Agreed.

I have the Cobalt Co9 and an SM58. In all honesty, both perform VERY well.

  4. XM8500 are $60 each? How ironic. Import some back.

I have one of each. I give the SM58 the edge, but the Co9 is a good mic for the money.

I see you are in China. There are a bunch of "58" style mics on Alibaba.com -- can't vouch for the quality, but the prices are dirt cheap.

strangely Behringer stuff here is very pricey and hard to get - I think it has something to do with the regulations regarding Behringer City/factories...

Similarly a Squire Classic Vibe is $600 and very hard to find...

Just found out a colleague is going home for Easter - going to order some Shure PGA58s from Musicians Friend and have him mule them back...we get 2 extra mics and don't have to worry about fakes..
    Thanks!

  11. These are on sale for $30 at MF right now, assuming this is a really good price on these mics?

    Yes, I'd say that's a good price.
