I use D'Addario EXL170 and Roto Bass 40 which are 45-65-80-100 for about $22 a set. Not exactly expensive, but for half of that, I decided to try these Orphee VX120 which is 40-60-80-100 set. Not sure how long these strings will last or how stable they are, but the tone is pretty awesome. They are not as loud as my usual choice of strings and significantly quieter, probably a handful of dBs quieter, however, dig the tone and sustain... Quite impressive for the price. The fact that they are not as loud is not necessarily a negative, cleaner sound kind of like single coil vs humbucker type of difference.
