Just look around, there a a lot of them on the market. I found a 40 year old Conrad mahogany and it sounds great.

I'd get a Kala U-Bass but those are about $400. You can find them used (saw a few of them here for sale recently) for about $300 or so.

Baritone uke tuned low... hahaha, that's exactly what I used in the 70s when I was 13, before I finally scored a loaner bass from my sister's boyfriend! Got a Mel Bay book and made the most of what was in the house!
