Checked Out a '59 Precision Today

I wasn't looking at it with the intent to purchase, an old friend of mine wanted me to see it(he wanted to show it off). The story was that it came from the SF area, and was owned by Duck Dunn at one point, it's quite a story, but anyway:

The bass was really neat, it was a Mary Kay. I didn't notice it at first because much of the gold was gone from the hardware, the plating was about 50% intact.

Now for the bad part:

Firstly, the bass didn't have strings on it. How screwed-up is that??

Secondly, I was surprisingly thrown into a room with a lot of interesting basses and for whatever reason I didn't think to whip-out the cell camera, I'm not sure it would've been appropriate for the situation anyway.
