Choosing between two Warwicks.

I found two Warwicks online for fairly cheap and I'm stuck between them. Now these are basses I have to have shipped to me so I'm not able to try them out. But one is a Warwick Standard Passive Corvette 5-string and the other is a Warwick Corvette $$ Passive 5-string. I can't find any sort of sound test on the Double Buck, which is why I'm asking if anyone has had any experience with it. I'm pretty sure they're both Rockbasses, which doesn't bother me at all. But I'd love a Warwick again, after selling my old Bubinga one, I regretted it more then anything. So please, if you have any experience with either one of these basses, you choose one over another or you have sound clips of both, please post them.
I play in a Djent band and really need a 5-string that can give me that nice Djenty/Periphery kind of bass tone.

I honestly have no idea what a djent band is, so I don't really know what the sound is that you're going for, but seungkoo is correct in stating that with the wood differences the Rockbasses don't quite hit that "true" Warwick tone. That being said, the ones that I've played sounded fantastic in their own right.

Between the two that you're looking at, your best bet is likely the $$. More tonal options.

Periphery, Meshuggah, Animals As Leaders, so on and so on.

Honestly the $$ shinces with its active electronics. If it were me I would go with the normal corvette rockbass as it will be more of your traditional jazz bass set up.

The two big humbuckers on the $$ are massive and that amount of pull from the magnetic field is huge. I really thing they shine a lot more with the active electronics. I've owned both bolt on $$ vette as well as the NT $$ vettes. I have also owned your typical corvettes.

Or just be patient and wait until a used $$ vette made in germany come up on the classfieds. they are awesome basses

Ahhhh, got it. Well in that case, I'd say any of the Warwicks that I've owned would work well for it, honestly. (Thumb BO and NT, Corvette Std active, Proline's, and Infinity SN) I really have to say that the Proline's I've owned have by far the most aggressive sound I've gotten from a bass, which is why I refuse to sell my four banger ;)

There is no such thing as one "true" Warwick tone. Some of their classic basses are also made with traditional woods like ash and maple!

Well, to a certain degree. They're all very clear with a balanced tone and a varying degree of "growl", but you're right in that the various Wick's I've had all had their own characteristics that made each one unique.

the rockbass ones all have 3 knobs. the german ones have the extra knobs and switches.

Ah, thank you for the clarifying.

I'm usually a single-coil kind of guy, but when I saw the price on the Double Buck, I thought I'd ask some people. I kind of assumed (since most Djent bassists play mostly play SRs) that humbuckers would work better.

Yeah, was always under the impression that with the variety of pickup configurations and brands that Warwick uses, there's no signature tone in the same way we regard the J, P, MM, EB tones.

That double buck looks like something I would love to own. :D

these are some good points. since humbuckers have a darker sound it's really nice to have an active EQ to liven up the highs. i'm sure the rockbass $$'s are decent basses, but you're not getting anywhere near the versatility of the german ones (which have active/passive switching, coil splitting, series/parallel, etc etc).

then again, the OP had mentioned using overdrive/distortion, which often works better on passive basses. so maybe the active EQ is really not that big of a deal in this case.

Haha, Overdrive is a big part in Djent bass. And I prefer it with passive pick ups. And since the Rockbass $$s have a push/pull for splitting, I can really mess with the tone.
