Choosing The Right Speaker Cab

I just picked up a wonderful Sunn Colliseum Lead. its 320watts, and i need to buy a speker cab to go along with it.
I don't want to blow out the speakers, cuz this amp is louuuuud, so do any of you have any suggestions that would give me a great sound and would be safe to play through?

There are at least fifty possible cabs you can go with. You really have to listen to them to narrow the selection down.

As for not blowing it up, that's easy. When you hear speakers farting out, back off the volume and/or bass EQ. If you don't, you can blow every cab out there.

My idea of a good cabinet tone isn't the same as yours. Nor is anyone else's idea here.

It's like asking "What would taste good for lunch?"

Seriously, take your Sunn to a music store and try some cabinets with it. You should be able to eliminate some and might like others.

Start by narrowing down the tone you're after, from there you can decide on the cab configuration. Buy something that will handle at least 350W continuous. Remember that tone is a combination of amp, speakers, bass, strings and if you play loud the more speaker area and the efficiency of the cab will result in better tone at louder volumes. Remember, there is no magic bass cab, only well thought out combinations.

I have no experience with Long & McQuade. If you plan to buy, most places will accommodate you. Smaller shops are much better at this than megastores.

To the OP: buy used....the speaker enclosure, not lunch.
