Chosing a cabinet

I just bought a G-K 1001RB II and was wondering about my options for speakers. I was thinking of going all G-K and getting a RBH410, but am open to options. I play mostly heavy stuff and use a Hot Rodded MIA P-bass, a Yamaha RBX-775 five string, and a Scheter Studio 8 string. I want thunder, and I want to take off heads with a good old fashioned pinch-squeal now and then.

Opinions please!

Get the RBH410, or maybe the DB410 by Aguilar. Make sure the cabinet you do pick up is 4 ohms, otherwise it may not be loud enough for your situation. (No idea how many guitars/how loud the drummer is, but I'd always rather have more then as opposed to not enough volume)

The RBH410 @ 4ohms... that's what was suggested by the salesman at Sam Ash. And I agree, it's easy to roll back the horsepower than wish you had more. That's why I bought the G-K. We're a 3 piece and my guitarist has a hot rodded Laney and my drummer is a hammer-handed, double bass menace... I was bringing a knife to a gun fight! :rollno:

the rbh is a good option, i personally have never ben a fan of gk cabs, although i love gk heads. i would get either an epifani ul 4x10 or an eden 4x10xlt....both are serious cabs with very strong mids which will help you cut through in a big way!

I just picked up a 1001RB as my backup head. I played it through an Ampeg SVT 410hlf - plenty loud against a drummer, singer through a 2 15's, 100 watt tube amp through 412 and 100 watt Marshall Valve state. Keep in mind that I had the contour knob at 0 and the hi-mid up a little - while the rest of the knobs were flat. Cut through great in practice.

I would suggest elevating the cabinet closer to your ears when you play - it helps you hear yourself and keep your volume down.

One thing to look at - if you go GK, you can take advantage of the Horn Mangement system. You can run 30hz-5khz in the 10's and anything above 5khz through the tweeter. Check out the manual for how this works. If you buy a non GK cab, the sound 30hz-15khz will come right through the speakers and tweeter with no crossover system. Try this out in a store and see what way you prefer.

And just realizing where you're located, if you don't have a car, Neo may be the best way to go for you. GK doesn't make 10's in Neo, but they do have 12's(which at the moment are my favorite size of speaker). Two 12's are more then enough power to cut through, but as always, it's all about personal taste. Try out some different speaker sizes and see what speaks to you.
