yeah, I heard this guy vaguely mentioned when searching around and was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction or at least confirm they are out there somewhere. The SD custom shop manager I exchanged emails with just said he thinks someone on a forum sells them and try to search around.

Thanks for trying to help, I am sure somebody knows and will pop in eventually.

option 1)

try this guy, he sells T-Bird reissued pups and he might know the guy we are talking about.

his pups are made by Fralin i think but he might remember the "cover" guy.

option 2)

find the ebay sale of covers for the "three" hole pup covers and weld'em shut ( i would recommend TIG welding), grind, drill two holes and then rechrome.

although this might sound like a way too complex problem solver, the "pup cover guy" asks a lot for his covers (LIKE 200+ THE LAST I HEARD) so at $39 a pop, this might be an avenue to ride on. you get the rings, the covers and a minimal charge at a chromers shouldn't go over 35-40 a pop for a small item like a cover. a chromer in Des Moines estimated the cost for me a year ago. i decided to go with a new Dark Star DS2 and have just sold my 71 Bucker (yeah it was engraved "Gibson"), a new EB3 varitone replacement switch and a black TB Plus to pay for the Dark Star and some knock your socks off A+++++ (yeah 5 pluses!!!) wood for my body cap.

I bought one of those you are referring to from Tony.
The one I got is a modern(plastic original) that he carefully made naked(removed the plastic cover...do not try this unless you are VERY careful, possible to destroy the pickup...it's tricky) and then installed into his repro cover. His contact info is found on fretsonthenet(scroll down to the bottom of the page below the repro T-Bird pickup rings section):

I used the rings on numerous basses. They work fine.

i couldn't ever get logged back in after dude did his last revamp so i came over here. i couldn't think of who it was that had those covers.
