Was searching for some information on buying one of these non-export models and read back in January that they stopped selling these to the US. Has anyone been able to buy one from Ishibashi or anywhere else? What's the deal?

CIJ, Fender Japan exports stopped?

Not stopped; never begun (officially). No Japanese reseller is "allowed" to sell Fender Japan instruments to Stateside buyers. Ishibashi and others have in the past, but Fender has cracked down on this practice of late.
Cannibalism, i.e. importing instruments from Fender Japan hurts U.S. Fender sales.
I was wondering the same, the have have pretty sweet basses, they would make a fortune if the sold them here
I've emailed Ishibashi and I've been told by a sales rep only the brand new guitars and basses cannot be shipped outside. If it's in their used catalogue they can ship it to you.
However if you really want it and don't have enough money to fly to Japan. You could buy it through a proxy. There are proxy services that can do this for a fee. I've only ever dealt with proxy services when dealing with anime and other small goods bought from Yahoo Auction Japan.
I've lost the link to the proxy I've used. But their service was very good and their fees aren't too crazy.
