Cirrus V, Warwick, or Dingwall?

Alright. It's about that time. GAS plus a legit need for a new 5 string has me in a tough spot.

I figure that if I'm gonna buy a good 5 string of $1000+, it should be a really good one.

So far, I've narrowed it down to 3 choices.
1. An American made Peavey Cirrus V
2. A Warwick (Ideally a Corvette $$)
3. A Dingwall Combustion

The only thing about the Dingwall is that the Combustion models are made in China. For 1000+, I'd like as good of a build quality as I can get. However, I haven't heard any bad things about it so I've let it fall to the wayside for the time being.

Any opinions from owners of any of the mentioned basses? Input would be greatly helpful.

I'm a huge Cirrus fan, but a Warwick Corvette would be a great choice too.

Had a combustion, really liked it, but the new version is just about to be launched, so I would wait and check them out, I never liked any warwicks I tried but that's a personal thing, you should head over to the Dingwall site for all the info Invalid Link Removed
they are supposed to be cheaper than it's predecessor, with a lot more bang for the buck, as for the made in China thing, Sheldon checks every bass before he lets it leave his shop and takes great pride in his work, and as for his after sales service, it's second to none, can you spot the Dingwall fan here, hope this helps.

The Warwick would be at the bottom of the list as I don't care for the ovie necks. If you'd asked 15+ years ago, it would have been at the top as they were sporting the 3 piece wenge necks.

Not that it matters to anyone else but my drummer used to ask for the "white one": a Dingwall Combustion 5. The QC is fantastic but I did change out the Ping tuners for some better Hipshot Ultralites. Runner up would be the Cirrus but with the Millennium preamp (sweepable mids).

I chose a warwick ovangkol neck jazzman streamer over a cirrus due to superior (to me) tone acoustically (which is something I find inspiring) and actually have found I prefer the girth over my skinny carvin and ernie ball necks. Tied with alembic as best bass ive ever owned.

Cirrus is cool but acoustically I found it dead with no feel in the axe of the notes I was playing.

Totally subjective of course, as this should be for good instrument comparisons.

Dingwall. Maybe save a little and get a used Canadian Dingwall.

I have a 4 string Peavey Cirrus that I have been trying to sell for years. Every time I pick it up to sell it it becomes my go to bass again.

In my opinion the neck-thrus are the better basses. I do not care for the bolt-on ever since my 1970 fender necks would wiggle with a little side torque. I would not buy a bass that does not have neck-thru. Do they make a Corvette with neckthru in that price range? I would think not.

One more vote for a Combustion here. If it were me I'd wait for a V4 or an NG-2, but whatever you end up with you can't go wrong.

Dingwall necks don't "wiggle" at all. Rock solid construction.

A Carvin 5 seems a good choice in that price range.

They have loads of different models these days.
