CL vs. 2PRO......again

I've been reading over the manuals for both, and I noticed that the 2PRO has five pre-amp tubes(4 x 12AX7/1 x 12AU7) and 3 driver tubes(1 x 12AX7/2 x 12AU7). The CL has two pre-amp tubes(2 x 12AX7) and three driver tubes(2 x 12AU7/1 x 12AX7). What difference does that make in the sound? The driver tubes are the same, but what do the extra 3 pre-amp tubes in the 2PRO provide? I want to know everything about everything before I drop $1500(or more) on an amp, so please help me. Also, IN YOUR OPINION, what makes one better than the other??? THanks all...:help:

Id wait to check out that SVT vintage reissue that ampeg has coming out soon
Definatly a good idea

And having more tubes doesnt make it sound better, also have a look at the older SVT-II (non-pro), its a much better amp IMHO, less added bits and bobs, but it sounds better than the CL and 2-Pro to me :) , much fuller and just right!

But, as lo-end said, the new Vintage reissue SVT is definatly going to be worth checking out!

The 3 extra tubes are indeed for the eq section. One is for the highs, one is for the lows, one is for the mids. And when you do a real full on comparision, there seems to be more tone shaping and capability. They had to come out with the classic stuff because of the huge demand for the vintage stuff.

The 70's svt's had much better components in them at that time, especially the transformers. They make a huge difference tone and volume. That being said, you can still get a pretty smokin sound out of the modern pro II stuff, they can have some reliabilty issues when they get older and need re-tubed. It pays to have an excellent tech.
