class D/Neo question

does anyone think class d amplifiers and neo speakers sounds kind of.....farty? can't think of another word haha

the weight is nice, (been playing an SWR full stack for years)
so yeah it'd be nice to have something that sounds as good but so far the markbass, and other similar port-amps and the GK neos just don't....quite have it

anyone else know what I'm saying?

My question is, has the market came along and made neo speakers that sound good? I'm in the military and haven't had much time to go around and play new amps and I'm in the market now, what do you guys recommend? i hear great things about bergantino, and aguilar cabs,

I'm mainly looking for a single cab solution, maybe 2x12's? I think I'm gonna stick with an SWR SM series head or maybe a 750x, i play a Warwick thumb nt 5(18v) and a Sadowsky modern 5-24

lets hear some feedback!

The very smallest of the neo cabs I've played sound farty but not the bigger ones. Class D heads also have a sound that isn't quite tube and isn't quite traditional solid state sound but probably come closer to hitting the mark for tube amp fans than fans of traditional solid state.

Throw up some conventional speakers that you do like the sound of. current crop neos tend to have more top and equivalent bass to ceramics (because of the engineering benefits of the drivers). It might be the extra harmonics from the better top you aren't liking, that were filtered out by dark rivers before. That sort of thing you might want to locate from source.

Nothing should sound farty unless something's wrong.
Too much gain from the bass into the preamp can cause farty sounds.
You can test this by turning down the volume at the bass and bringing it up at the amp, see if that makes it go away.

I definitely hear extended lows and highs coming from my neos. I've taking to rolling off some lows and highs in the EQ, but then I like a punchy midrange anyway.

I have no complaints, I love my Markbass 102P cabs.

well I've always played goliath 3's 4x10 i like the sound of the eden 4x10's and the older trace elliot speakers sounds killer imo

If it is 4x10s you like and you tend to stand in front and fairly close to them, its probably the top bit from the cones you don't like, and the tweeter if running is telling your there is still top so you don't notice.

No all the new age new age gear is crap. You gotta get the heaviest amp and cab possible for decent sound...

:eyebrow:

In all seriousness, I have a 35 pound cab and a micro head that will knock the snot out of just about any rig twice its weight. Will go lower than anything else in its weight class, and to my ear sound fabulous doing all that.

A few might agree with you, but that is a small minority.
