Clean DI as sub bass channel

Hi,

I've been working on an electronic/rock project as a sideline to my other band. I'm using a fair amount of effects; flangers, choruses distortion etc. I read (cant remember where) that running a clean DI to a mixing desk to be used as a sub channel can be good for keeping in the low end for sustaining that electronic feel but i have no idea what i have to do with the clean di to make it a sub channel. Any hints?

You could get all fancy and run the DI into some processing such as this:

120A Subharmonic Synthesizer :: dbx® Professional Products

But in fact, you just need to run that DI clean and it'll help at FOH with the very bottom. But as far as the DI signal keeping an electronic feel, or being used as a "sub channel", you'll have to give very explicit instructions, and/or use some method of external processing.

Yeah, this way at least you know if you end up in a club and only get one line to the FOH, things will sound right. Check this out:
Radial BigShot MIX - true bypass fx loop controller/mixer

For not much money (and with a tiny footprint and minimal hassle), that'll take care of your blend/losing the supportive tone of your dry sound issues.

As for a "sub bass" type of sound, as Justin says that's a whole nuther thing . . .

Hey!

Just going to chime in, because I think the origins of this question may stem from some old threads about how I do things with Nerve...

Immediately following my OC2, I have a radial proDI that goes to FOH so that Roli, our engineer, has a signal with consistent lowend... He also uses this to feed processing that he does on his end...

This works differently that a clean blend, because it allows for parallel processing of the bass signal at FOH, while my stage and amp sound is 100% FX.

Wow! I think it was on a forum about John's fx that I read about a sub di signal. We work with our own engineer so i should be able to try sending my signal in the way mentioned above. I recently bought this amp Invalid Link Removed and thought that it had a sub line out feature which i intended to try running a D.I from but while the head was advertised as having this feature it is actually a klystron 500 in a different housing and does not have a sub line out .
That being said the amp does sound awesome.
