i know this isnt a recording website but i thought id post just incase anyone knew the answer to this question. Can one clean faders. I have really nice faders on my console, DDA, i beleive their alps faders. 90% of them work like they should, smoother than a babys bottom, but a few are a little gritty. Can i take them apart and clean them up to make them smoother, and if so how would i go about doing that?

cleaning faders?

I think they make special cleaners that you can spray in there. Keep them off plastic though, since it will just dissolve it.
Don't skimp, some people reach for the WD40 and these people need to be beaten senseless, scrubbed with steel wool and then bathed in WD40!
WD40 is a water displacing lubricant. It is NOT and electrical contact cleaner. I cannot make this any clearer except to say it's about the equivalent of using bleach on your condoms.
My recommendation is to get Caig De-oxit DN5. Kinda pricey, but totally worth it. If they're just a bit gritty, just use the tube to squirt a bit down into the slot right along the length of the pot then work it back and forth a bit. You should notice the difference straight away. It will change the feel of the slider a bit because it gets rid of grease and stuff, so you might wanna do them all so there's a consistent feel across the board.
If they're REALLY good faders, like Penny and Giles style, then this won't work because the construction of the pots is totally different... but I'd say it's unlikely you'd have those faders unless you own a Neve or something!

well they actually are on the same level as penny and giles, there is not pot, just a long shaft. im a bit scared but i will maybe try this contact cleaner you suggested, where can i purchase said cleaner?
