One thing about TalkBass is that people are so opinionated, and so sure their opinions are the be all and end all. Mr PC, you are insisting my bass must sound like a 70s Alembic..... well, I actually hate that sound, in fact your namesake is my bass "hero" and who I strive to sound like. I even use gut strings. How do you know what my bass sounds like? You don't. You're only assuming, based on what, I don't know. I have just recorded an album, and the engineer and the mastering engineer both said it was the best bass sound they had ever recorded. I just realised why I don't frequent this forum much any more, to many one-eyed keyboard warriors here.

Here is a recording right now recorded with a WalterWoods amp and Epifani Speaker with Full Circle on the Eminence.. would the Rev II Solo sound better? Or how do you think it would compare?

Just saw this. Well, the Rev Solo II seems to have more of the body to it. It's warm, but still reasonably articulate. It sounds like a big acoustic instrument, plenty of thump, but it isn't muddy. My upright is currently strung with several years-old Spiros, which may help the tone too.

Just installed the rs2 on my carved bass and after some tinkering got it sounding great. The install was a bit of a pain in the butt, but not too bad. Overall I'm pleased. Can't wait to try it out live

I never said anything about a be all or end all. I expressed a rather blunt opinion, that's all really. I' appreciate and respect that your opinion is so so important..but you too are making blunt assumptionin thinking my opinion is the last word...guess not, eh? here ya go, my opinion is not the last word, feel better? KInda silly, isn't it? No harm done! Glad you are having a positive experience with your pickup system. Good luck with that. :)

Well, I think TalkBass is jinxed! :D After all my bragging about my Barbera Transducer System working for so long (I worked it out to about 18 years), it went down on me at my gig last night. Specifically, the E string died. So I dragged the RS II out of hiding, spent some time fitting it, and fired it up. A bit of tweaking and I got a reasonable sound, not as good as the Barbera, but not bad. I can almost duplicate the Barbera sound by tweaking the eq on my amp, where-as I used to leave the eq section flat before. I guess 18 years is a good run for any pickup in a bass that's been gigged steadily, done a few airline flights, and been stacked in a van with other band gear for road-trips on many occasions.
It's all Jimmy's fault for bringing the topic up in the first place! :laugh:

Sorry to hear of the death of your Barbera. Re: the Rev Solo II, don't be afraid to try a bunch of positions for the unit in the bridge. When I was setting mine up years ago I accidentally twisted it so that it was not longer "lined up" with the edges of the bridge. It absolutely came alive, revealing a sweet spot that I had never heard before, with a clear tone and very high volume. This has been my favourite pickup for a long time now, and I continue to get compliments on the clarity of its sound from theatre sound men who find it incredibly easy to fit into the house mix.

For me it's snug but not overly tight with the RS facing up and centered on the top of the bridge wing. And if I need to shim it to hold it in tight, I do it from the bottom. Won't say it works for everyone but it works for me.

By the way, there was a question raised in a very recent thread regarding how I know about the design of the Rev Solo. Well, it's quite easy. Take a look. Anyone can know without access to any "inside" knowledge. I also spoke to it's inventors at length about it. It's amazing what you can learn by reading and asking questions. I figured folks here might want to see some of the details.
